FDA announces proposed sodium reduction targets

In a widely-anticipated move, the FDA released draft targets on Wednesday for voluntary sodium reduction in the food industry, according to a press release issued by the agency.  The goal of the long-term target is to limit American sodium consumption to 2,300 mg each day, well below today’s average sodium intake of 3,400 mg per day.
